WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster volleyball team picked up where it left off on day one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Weekend, this time making short work of Denison University in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-17) victory Sunday morning at Timken Gymnasium.

The win marked the Scots (18-7, 8-4 NCAC) 10th in a row over the Big Red (10-12, 5-5 NCAC) dating back to 2007.

Denison got out to an 8-5 lead in the opening set, but coming out of a timeout, Autumn Berry served five straight points to push Wooster ahead 10-8. The Scots then steadily pulled away throughout the set, as a powerful kill from Erica Skillman made it 15-12, and a well-placed strike down the sideline from Zoe Zwegat pushed the cushion to 22-15, leading to an eventual win.

Wooster built a quick 5-1 advantage in set two, but Denison stayed with it, and pulled within one point at 10-9. From that moment on, the Big Red suffered from a string of mishits, and along with some key kills from Paige Parker and Melissa Morgan, the Scots were able to race away to a decisive triumph.

In the third set, Wooster led 10-4 early on behind strong serving from Margaret Raabe and Kelley Johnson, and some excellent back row play by Devin Grandi. Denison inched back into it at 13-9, but some big kills from Skillman and Sarah Hawke kept Denison at bay and fueled Wooster towards taking the set and the match.

Overall, Morgan led the offense with nine kills. Berry and Lizzi Beal dished out 15 and 12 assists, respectively, and Grandi totaled a game-high three service aces.

The Scots will be back on the court at 2 p.m. to take on Ohio Wesleyan University.
