SCOTS LOG CAREER-HIGHS IN WEEKEND FINALE

Hayley Nash ALLIANCE, Ohio – Junior Hayley Nash capped the weekend with 23 kills – the most by a College of Wooster volleyball player since 2012 – and the Fighting Scots swept Baldwin Wallace University 25-16, 25-16, 25-23 and beat Carnegie Mellon University – a qualifer for the last NCAA Div. III Championships – 25-20, 26-24, 22-25, 26-24 on the second day of the University of Mount Union Invitational.

Wooster's side-out success proved to be a crucial component against Baldwin Wallace, and that kept the Yellow Jackets from stringing together sustained success all match long. Wooster logged a side out on 39-of-57 attempts and had a 70 percent success rate in sets one and three. That led to Baldwin Wallace having just 10 instances where it scored consecutive points over the course of the match.

Junior Hayley Nash was the lone Scot to reach double digit kills against Baldwin Wallace with 10, and as a team, the Scots finished just south of .200 (.196) in the attack percentage column. Junior Sydney Fitzcharles tallied 19 digs, and that played a big part in the Yellow Jackets hitting -.008.

Other stats to note against Baldwin Wallace included eight kills, five digs, and two aces by senior Katie Billetdeaux and three blocks from classmate Brooke Swain.

Cecelia Hamisch (10 kills), Lauren Gardner (11 digs), and Lauren Reid (25 assists, four aces) were the standouts for Baldwin Wallace.

In the nightcap, Nash was an unstoppable force in the fourth set. The art history and studio art major tallied nine kills in the frame, including three in a four-point stretch. Those proved key, as the third one put Wooster up 20-19, and later, Nash tied the set at 21 with her ninth kill of the frame.

Wooster, which hit a season-best .253 against Carnegie Mellon, received major contributions from junior Emily Gail, who turned in a career-high 17 kills. In fact, Gail didn't have a single attack error in the match, and she hit .500 against the Tartans.

Nash's 23 kills marked the most since alumna Paige Parker had 24 against Muskingum University on October 12, 2012. Senior Syd Case dished out 49 assists, a total tied for the fourth-most in a four-set match during the current scoring era.

Fitzcharles totaled 18 digs in the weekend finale.

Laura Reichard had the big match for Carnegie Mellon with 16 kills, 15 digs, and a 29-of-31 ledger on serve receives.

Billetdeaux was Wooster's selection to the all-tournament team.

Next, Wooster hosts Wilmington College (1-1) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8.
