Wooster Opens Battle at the Point with Win Over Adrian

Case SANDUSKY, Ohio – The North Coast Athletic Conference struck first on the Cedar Point Sports Center's featured court at the Battle at the Point with the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association, thanks to The College of Wooster volleyball team, which took the opening match on court one from Adrian College 25-14, 25-10, 23-25, 25-13 on Friday afternoon.

Wooster's (5-2) theme of early-set big runs from Wednesday's 3-0 win over Wilmington College carried over to Friday's opening set. There, the Scots logged a pair of 5-0 stretches. First, senior Brooke Swain tied the opening frame at one, and later senior Katie Billetdeaux and junior Hayley Nash teamed up to swat away Ayden Cribbs' attack attempt. Junior Emily Gail found the court twice for kills during the second 5-0 stretch, that saw Wooster double up Adrian at 22-11.

Junior Sydney Fitzcharles' strong service game kept Adrian out of sorts at the second set's onset. The neuroscience major served up three aces in the first four points, while a Bulldog overpass led to an easy kill for Nash. Later, senior Seven Townsel's kill sparked a set-closing 6-0 run.

Billetdeaux logged six kills on eight swings in the decisive fourth set. Two of those came during Wooster's match-closing 10-2 run. That led to a match-high 18 kills for the senior, a total that matched her career-high.

Nash had a double-double with 13 digs and 12 kills. Four Scots finished in double figures in the dig column, including Townsel, who had a season-best 16. Senior Syd Case's six aces are tied for the fifth-most in the current scoring era and the most since Townsel's six against Buffalo State College in 2019.

Wooster hit a season-high .359 in the match, marking the fifth straight outing the Scots have upped the team's season-best.

Adrian had eight kills apiece from Cribbs and Blaire Weiman.

Wooster takes on Trine University (10:30 a.m.) and Alma College (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday at the Cedar Point Sports Center.
