Wooster Swept at Denison

Chloe Filippa Batoudak College of Wooster volleyball GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison University continued to solidify its position as a strong contender within the North Coast Athletic Conference, as the Big Red swept The College of Wooster volleyball team 25-18, 25-18, 25-21 on Saturday afternoon at Livingston, Gymnasium.

A 10-0 Denison (13-5, 4-0 NCAC) run was the difference in the first set. Senior Katie Billetdeaux's kill pulled Wooster (12-6, 1-2 NCAC) within 16-12 in the second set, but that's the closest the Scots came down the stretch. In the third, the Scots never could catch up from the Big Red's eight-point set-starting spree. The Scots did get within three at 24-21 on junior Hayley Nash's kill.

Wooster had just one stretch scoring four or more consecutive points, and that came in the second frame. Nash and senior Brooke Swain put home kills during that sequence.

Nash finished with a match-high 14 kills, and she's now at 268 – the eighth-most in single-season history during the current scoring era – on the year. Senior Seven Townsel led Wooster in digs at 12, and junior Sydney Fitzcharles was right behind at 11.

Daria Rodriguez and Sophia Sobota led Denison with 12 kills apiece. Maria Pavlick took high honors among Denison's crew with 11 digs. Kirby MacKinnon was in a giving mood with an average of 13 assists per set.

Denison hit .294 on the day to Wooster's .167.

Next, Wooster hosts Oberlin College (8-8, 1-3 NCAC) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13.
