Scots Down Yeowomen to Even Up NCAC Record

Seven Townsel College of Wooster volleyball WOOSTER, Ohio – Senior Seven Townsel logged a career-high 14 kills against her hometown college, and The College of Wooster volleyball team evened up its North Coast Athletic Conference record with a 25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 25-19 win over Oberlin College on Wednesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

Townsel, an Oberlin native, was nearly unstoppable in the opening set with seven kills on 10 swings. Three of those came during Wooster's (13-6, 2-2 NCAC) 9-1 stretch, with an Oberlin (9-9, 1-4 NCAC) attack error opening up a 12-4 Scots' lead. Wooster hit .385 in the opening frame, with junior Hayley Nash helping that effort with four kills on six swings.

Wooster was even better in the second set, checking in with a .387 attack percentage when the final numbers came in. The Scots were active at the net as well, with senior Katie Billetdeaux stuffing three Oberlin attack attempts to pair with four kills in the frame. The final Billetdeaux block came at 24-20, and that put the brakes on a 4-1 Oberlin run.

Three Oberlin attack errors in a four-point stretch handcuffed the Yeowomen in the fourth. That enabled Wooster to open a 21-14 cushion, and a kill by junior Emily Gail and ace from sophomore Trinity Harmon were unforced errors in Wooster's scoring column down the stretch.

Townsel's 14 kills were two better than her previous high of 12 from the Roanoke College match earlier this year, and marked the co-match-high. Nash and Billetdeaux combined for 23 kills. Nash added 14 digs, and Billetdeaux finished with five blocks. Senior Syd Case passed out 48 assists and came up two digs shy of a double-digit total.

Oberlin's Natasha Radic matched Townsel with 14 kills. Moo DeHaro took high honors in digs at 21. The Yeowomen hit .172 for the match.

Next, Wittenberg University (14-6, 4-0 NCAC) visits Timken Gymnasium for a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday, October 16.
