Scots Wrap Up NCAC Play With Sweep of Gators

Emily Gail MEADVILLE, Pa. – Host Allegheny College had no answer for The College of Wooster volleyball team's Hayley Nash, who logged her sixth match with at least 20 kills this fall during the Fighting Scots' 27-25, 25-21, 25-19 sweep over the Gators on Wednesday evening at the David V. Wise Center.

Wooster (16-8, 4-4 North Coast Athletic Conference) leaned heavily on its star outside hitter in the second set. Nash, who came into the day leading the conference in kills at 338, went off for 10 in that frame, and by the end of the set, the junior was already up to 16 on the night. She went on to up her season total to 358, with that ranking as the most since alumna Paige Parker's 415 in 2012.

Wooster's sustained success attacking the ball was the difference, with the Scots finishing the night with 50 kills to the Gators' 29. The second set was notable, with 20 of the Scots' 25 points coming via kills, and senior Syd Case passed out the assist on 15 of them. The discrepancy in the team totals was prominent, as Allegheny (14-9, 2-6 NCAC) only had 10 kills in the frame, and the Scots outhit the Gators .246 to .159 in set two.

Elsewhere, Wooster scored in other areas down the stretch, thanks to four aces and three blocks in set three. Senior Katie Billetdeaux had a hand in all three blocks, teaming up twice with Case and once with Nash.

Wooster, which hit .206 on the night, had nine kills apiece from Billetdeaux and junior Emily Gail. Junior Sydney Fitzcharles' 26 digs were her second-most this fall, and the Scots' libero finished two assists shy of her first career double-double.

Kendall Crum paced Allegheny's front row with nine kills, Cheyenne Wilson took charge in the back with 14 digs, and the Gators hit .138 for the match.

Wooster will be the fifth seed for next week's NCAC Tournament. Prior to that, the Scots will have one final regular season match at Case Western Reserve University (12-11) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 30.
