Volleyball Falls On Final Day of Emory Classic

Tyara Thompson, Wooster volleyball ATLANTA, Georgia - The College of Wooster volleyball team concluded the Emory University Classic Tournament with a straight-set loss to the host and 11th-ranked Eagles. The Fighting Scots fell by set scores of 25-6, 25-19 and 25-21.

Senior Emily Gail led the way for Wooster (6-14) with eight kills. Junior Tyara Thompson dished out 17 assists, while senior Sydney Fitzcharles anchored the defense with 13 digs.

Emory's (15-6) Kaya Monrose was the game's leading attacker with 11 kills. Sarah Loung recorded a double-double of 31 assists and 15 digs, while Lauren Bandera added 10 digs of her own.

The Eagles' offense overpowered the Scots in the first set with 15 kills and zero errors; however, Wooster came out unfazed in the second stanza as back-to-back kills from Gail and sophomore Amelia Mitchell tied the set at six apiece. Emory then used a 4-0 run to pull away from the Scots. In the final set, Nash's serve spearheaded a 6-0 run late to pull the Scots within two points at 20-18. The two teams traded points until an attack error from Gail followed by a Monrose kill secured the Emory victory.

Wooster (1-5 North Coast Athletic Conference) concludes league action on Wednesday, October 26, with a trip to Oberlin College (7-13, 0-6 NCAC). First serve is at 7 p.m. inside Philips Gymnasium.
