Senior Salute: Trinity Harmon

Trinity Harmon Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Trinity Harmon, an economics major from Wildwood, Missouri. Harmon is a member of the volleyball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose Wooster for the chance to continue to play my sport while ensuring I would be at an academically rigorous school. I liked the liberal arts aspect and being able to explore various passions in the classroom.

Q: What does being a Fighting Scot student-athlete mean to you?
A: I think a characteristic we all have is never being satisfied or complacent with where we are. We are always looking for ways to be better as students and as athletes. My fellow seniors are all involved in countless on-campus groups and organizations, and I think that really speaks to the character trait in all of us that wants to always do more.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I would say just bonding with my teammates over the years. The times spent on the bus and hanging out with each other are just as memorable as the big wins. I also remember feeling really rewarded when my teammate, Ty Thompson, and I were inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. That day really felt like we were recognized for all the hard work we have done to balance our academic responsibilities and act as captains that spring. It was a great day.

Q: What is the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: My teammates are the best part. The group of teammates I have bonded with has made my time so worth it. Win or lose, they are always there. I know I have made lifelong friendships through this program.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am involved with the Future Alumni Network, Wooster Women & Gender Minorities in Economics, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, and the Wooster Volunteer Network

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: My Independent Study advisor Dr. Brooke Krause has inspired me to pursue a future career in the field of economics. Dr. Krause has been an incredible role model for me from the first time meeting her in the classroom to sharing time together in Costa Rica on the TREK Program she helped lead. She has taught me valuable lessons from how to approach research holistically to actively demonstrating how to connect with people from other cultures. She embodies the core values and missions of the College, is an exemplary economist, and simultaneously represents what it means to be successful as a woman with a career and a family. She inspires me every day.

Q: What other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people and resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: My coach Sarah Davis has continuously pushed me to take advantage of the opportunities that are available at Wooster. I applied for both the AMRE (Applied Methods and Research Experience) and TREK Programs I participated in as a result of her encouragement. She cares about her players beyond the sport and is invested in our futures. I cannot thank Coach Davis enough for holding me accountable when it mattered most and for keeping my eyes looking ahead.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: I am investigating the relationship between ecotourism activities and their impacts on gender equity in developing economies. This topic was inspired by observations made during my trip to Costa Rica with the TREK Program this past summer. There is currently a lack of research exploring gendered impacts of economic systems and industries like ecotourism, which often carry a positive connotation in the realm of economic growth and poverty alleviation. However, we do not know how these benefits are distributed through a gender lens, which is what I hope to learn more about.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: A highlight of my time as a student-athlete was a trip my team took to Arizona in spring of 2022. We visited the Grand Canyon, which was a first for me. It may sound silly or cliche, but it really was a spiritual experience for me. I have never felt that small before in my life, but it was a really comforting place to be surrounded by such jaw-dropping scenery with my whole team taking in that moment together. It was certainly postcard worthy.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what advice would you give your first-year self?
A: Do not take yourself so seriously. It is okay to have fun and let your plans change and adapt as you go. You will end up where you are meant to be, just keep working hard and nurture your love of learning.
