Volleyball Ends NCAC Season in Heartbreak

OBERLIN – The College of Wooster volleyball team needed a win at Oberlin College to take a spot in the upcoming North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament but fell short of their goal falling in five sets 3-2 (17-25, 25-19, 22-25, 28-26, 15-9).

Instead, Oberlin earned the sixth seed in the tournament and will head to DePauw University when the tournament begins on Tuesday.

Wooster held a 2-1 set lead but could not close the Yeowomen out in the fourth set, falling 28-26. From there, Oberlin took control and won the match with a 15-9 set five.

Wooster had four reach double figures in kills. Tamara Turner recorded 15, Jordan Laraway had 12, Izzy Cozzie finished with 11 and Amelia Mitchell added 10.

Emma Fleck led Wooster with 43 assists, while Catherine Muzilla scored a team-high four aces.

Five reached double digits in digs with Turner leading the pack with 17. Oberlin's Julia Hall led the game with 17 kills.

Wooster started with a 25-17 first set win. They broke away from a 15-15 tie with the help to six straight points with Olivia Kitchen serving. Wooster then took advantage of three attack errors to win the set. 

After the second set loss, Wooster rebounded with a 25-22 third set thanks to a commanding start where they went ahead 13-3.

In the fourth set, Wooster came close but never had a chance at match point. They prevented Oberlin set point three times before falling 28-26 in the set.

In the deciding fifth set, the teams were tied 5-5 before Oberlin pulled away with six straight points. From there, the 11-5 deficit proved too much to come back from.

While Wooster's NCAC season ends, they will have two non-conference games to close out their season. They will host Wilmington College on Thursday, and they will wrap up the season Nov. 9 at Case Western Reserve University.
