Three College of Wooster runners were among the top-100 in their respective races at the annual All-Ohio Intercollegiate Cross Country Championships on Friday, which led the Fighting Scots to 26th- and 28th-place showings in the large men’s and women’s fields, respectively. The event brings together 44 teams, spanning NCAA Div. I, II, and III and NAIA schools from across the Buckeye State.

Among Div. III teams only, the Wooster men came in 12th of 20 and the women finished 13th of 22.

Individually, sophomore Rick Workman and senior Rudy Gilman paced the Scots, crossing the line in 96th and 97th overall with respective 8K times of 28:26.2 and 28:26.6. That put them 31st and 32nd in the Div. III field. Also scoring for the Wooster men was senior Colin Haverkamp, who placed 167th overall (30:00.1), as well as sophomore Jeff Jacobs in 180th (30:24.7) and junior Paul Thompson in 185th (30:30.2).

In the women’s 5K, freshman Suzanne Capehart led the Scots for the fourth time in as many meets, finishing 91st out of 296 harriers, which was 30th-best in Div. III, in a time of 21:02.0. Next was senior Nicole Calderone, who took 172nd-place (22:37.3), while running closely together were sophomore Caitlin O’Riordan and senior teammate Erin Fortin as they crossed in 191st (23:05.6) and 198th (23:12.6). Freshman Chelsea Fisher was the Scots’ fifth point producer, finishing 219th (23:46.9).

The Scots will compete again next Friday when they host the Jim Bean Classic.
