The College of Wooster had the top-eight runners in both the men’s and women’s competition Friday, as the Fighting Scots swept the three-team Jim Bean Cross Country Invitational.

Eleven of Wooster’s men’s harriers crossed the finish line before anybody else, scoring the minimum 15 points, while Lake Erie College (60) edged Hiram College (65) for second-place. Both sophomore Terry Workman and senior Rudy Gilman finished the 5K in 16:25, but it was Workman who edged Gilman for the individual victory. Rounding out the Scots’ scorers were sophomore Rick Workman in third (16:44), sophomore Jeff Jacobs in fourth (17:00), and junior Bryan Loy in fifth (17:19).

The women also ran a 5K and Wooster was just as dominant, equaling its male counterparts with the minimum 15 points. Hiram was the runner-up (61), followed by Lake Erie (65). Freshman Suzanne Capehart paced the 28-member field with a time of 19:33, nearly a full minute ahead of the runner-up, senior teammate Erin Fortin (20:25). Next for the Scots were freshman Chelsea Fisher, freshman Jessisca Yarmosky, and junior Anna Gill, who placed third (20:47), fourth (20:48), and fifth (21:08), respectively.

Next Wednesday, Wooster will host Edinboro University in the Wooster Relays, its last competition prior to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships.
