Scot Harrier Squads Each Take 19th at Inter-Regional Rumble

In a highly-competitive race that featured 10 nationally-ranked teams participating (six men, four women), the College of Wooster cross country teams competed at the Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin College on Saturday. When the dust had settled, the Fighting Scot harriers tallied 19th-place finishes in the men’s and women’s fields, respectively.

The Scot women totaled 537 points during the 6K race, while regional foe Case Western Reserve University took the competition with a mere 60 points. In the men’s 8K race, New York University was triumphant with 47 points, while Wooster had a combined score of 514.

Sophomore Suzanne Capehart led the Scot women, coming in 58th overall (23:21), while the winner was Joanna Johnson of host Oberlin (21:03). Freshman Sarah Appleton followed Capehart in 77th-place (23:41), while senior tri-captain Emily Elderbrock ran a 24:40 to take 128th overall. Wooster's other two placers were freshman Merdeith Shaul in 134th and senior tri-captain Becca Thomas in 140th, racing 24:57 and 25:17, respectively.

On the men's side, junior Terry Workman finished 39th with a final time of 25:45 and senior tri-captain Mark DeWine placed 61st (26:02). New York University's Jesse Schneider captured the event in 24:43. Wooster's other scorers included freshman Micah Caunter and junior Rick Workman, crossing the line in 27:02 and 27:16 for 128th and 1377th, respectively, while the final scoring member was freshman John Anderson in 149th (27:35).

The Scots will host the Wooster Relays on Wednesday (Oct. 22); their final preparation before the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships, which will be hosted by Oberlin.
