The College of Wooster cross country teams hosted the ninth
annual Wooster Relays on Wednesday, as the Fighting Scots along
with Edinboro University and Hiram College took part in one last
competition, in preparation for their respective upcoming
conference meets. It was not a team-scored event.
The unique meet saw the women run four separate intervals, which
added up to 5400 meters, while the men also went out on the course
four times for a total of 6800 meters.
Wooster’s top overall finisher was senior Mark DeWine, who
earned fourth with a time of 21:26, only placing behind three NCAA
Div. II runners from Edinboro. Also among the top-10 for the Scot
men were junior Terry Workman and freshman Micah Caunter, as they
came in sixth (21:40) and ninth (22:30), respectively.
The women’s meet also saw three Wooster harriers among the
top-10. Leading the way was sophomore Suzanne Capehart in sixth
overall, collecting a time of 20:01, while a group of five from
Edinboro were ahead of her, all by less than a minute. Just behind
Capehart were first-year teammates Sarah Appleton in eighth (21:04)
and Meredith Shaul in 10th (21:18).
Next for the Scots is the North Coast Athletic Conference
Championships on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Oberlin College.
