Appleton, Workman Brothers Shine at Ric Sayre Invitational

The College of Wooster cross country teams wasted no time getting their competitive season started on Saturday, as the women placed second and the men nabbed third place in their respective races at the Ric Sayre Invivational at North Canton, Ohio.

Sophomore Sarah Appleton paced the ladies, crossing the finish line in 19:30, which earned her sixth place in the 86-women race. Finishing only 14 seconds behind Appleton was first-year Colleen O'Neil, who finished in ninth place, and at the 20:08-mark was Lucy Moser who crossed the finish line 13th overall.

All five women who scored for Wooster finished in the top-20, as Jessica Yarmosky (20:21) and Meredith Shaul (20:28) earned 18th and 19th place honors. John Carroll University, who had three of the top-five runners in the race, placed first ahead of Wooster.

Leading the men's charge were twin brothers Terry and Rick Workman who earned fifth and ninth place, respectively. Terry finished in 26:21, which was just five seconds behind the second place time, and Rick completed the race in 27:05. Rounding out the scoring was Micah Caunter (27:56), Kevin DeGrout (28:23), and Ethan Rudawsky (28:47). Mount Union College took the top honors and host Walsh University finished in second place to top the Fighting Scots.

Both the men and women will compete in the Otterbein Invitational on Sept. 26 at Westerville, Ohio.
