Terry Workman Leads Scot Harriers at Inter-Regional Rumble

The College of Wooster cross country team's had some impressive individual performances at the Inter-Regional Rumble at Oberlin College on Saturday, and the men's harriers, led by Terry and Rik Workman, finished 21st of 28 schools, while the women nabbed 16th of 25 behind a strong showing from Sarah Appleton and Colleen O' Neil.

 

Terry Workman had Wooster's highest individual finish on either squad, capturing 57th place when he completed the 8k course in 26:21, or 1:35 off of the first place pace. His brother, Rik, crossed the finish line shortly after, as he earned 79th place with his time of 26:40. First-year Kevin Degroot was the next Scot to finish, as he placed 132nd in 27:27, and Micah Caunter and Jeff Lyman rounded out Wooster's top-5 with 27:44 and 28:26 finishes, respectively.

 

For the women, Appleton and O'Neil ran together to garner 65th and 68th place finishes, with Appleton wrapping up the 6k event in 23:30, and O'Neil crossing the line two seconds later. Chelsea Fisher finished in 23:47, which was good for 81st place, and Erin Plews-Ogan just missed the top-100 as she crossed in 24:22 (103rd place).

 

Wooster's men's team earned 579 points, while first place New York University scored 53 points, and the North Coast Athletic Conference's Allegheny College scored 56 in its second place finish. On the women's side, the Scots scored 434 points, and John Hopkins University won the meet with 62 points. Case Western Reserve University took second (105), and the NCAC's Oberlin College finished in third with 128 points.

 

The Scots will be back in action later this week, when the annual Wooster Relays takes place on Wednesday on the campus of The College of Wooster.
