At its biggest event to date of the 2009 season, The College of Wooster cross country teams put up their most impressive results as the women finished in third-place out of a 14-team field at Saturday's Otterbein College Invitational and the men were sixth of 16 overall.

In the women's 6K, Wooster scored 104 points, only behind meet champion DePauw University (29) and host Otterbein (69) as the Scots defeated rival Wittenberg University (192), four schools out of the Ohio Athletic Conference, and six others. Sarah Appleton paced Wooster and took eighth overall, covering the course in 23:37.4, while freshman teammate Colleen O'Neil posted her best effort to date via an 11th-place showing (23:53.3). Also scoring were Chelsea Fisher, Erin Plews-Ogan, and Suzanne Capehart, who all ran close together in 26th (24:57.6), 27th (24:58.4), and 32nd (25:12.7), respectively.

On the men's side, Wooster's sixth-place finish came as the result of a 185-point total, ahead of such schools as Case Western Reserve University (284) and Wittenberg (455), and three from the OAC, while Mt. Union College took home the crown with a 59-point score. Individually, the Scots were again led by twins Terry Workman and Rik Workman, with the former earning 18th-place and the latter 24th as they ran the 8K event in 26:54.5 and 26:59.5. Wooster's second group consisted of Micah Caunter, who came in 59th (27:59.1), Jack Anderson, who took 72nd (28:26.0), and Ethan Rudawsky, who was 73rd (28:27.7).

Next on the schedule is the annual All-Ohio Championships, which brings together collegiate harriers from across NCAA Div. I, II, and III, and NAIA. That will be held at Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday, Oct. 2.
