The College of Wooster cross country teams hosted the annual Wooster Invitational to kickoff 2010 on Wednesday evening, welcoming fellow northeast Ohio schools Baldwin-Wallace College, Hiram College, Lorain Community College, and Oberlin College for a non-scoring affair. The meet featured individuals competing in four different events, a 4K and a 5K for the women, followed by a men's 5K as well as a men's four-mile run.

Wooster's women's team, currently ranked No. 9 in the NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Region, was paced by Sarah Appleton as the two-time all-conference standout got her junior season off to a solid start by coming in fifth-place in the women's 5K with a time of 20:54.0. Three other Scots also were among the top-10, as Erin Plews-Ogan, Meredith Shaul, and Colleen O'Neil ran closely together in eighth (21:06.1), ninth (21:13.3), and 10th (21:40.5), respectively, and their top finisher in the 4K was sophomore transfer Monica Ramstad, who took 12th overall (16:45.7).

In the men's competition, three Wooster harriers had top-10 placements in the four-mile run with junior Ethan Rudawsky in seventh (22:19.3), sophomore Kevin DeGroot in eighth (22:33.1), and freshman Luke Hutchings-Goetz in ninth (22:36.4), while freshman Gabriel Abud led the team in the 5K (19:24.6).

Next, the Scots will take part in the Great Lakes Colleges Association Championships Sept. 11.
