Shaul and Appleton All-NCAC, While Leading Scot Women to Sixth-Place

With all-conference performances by Meredith Shaul and Sarah Appleton, The College of Wooster women's team finished in sixth-place at the North Coast Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships, held Saturday at Crawfordsville, Ind., and the Fighting Scots' men's team took eighth overall.

Wooster improved one spot over the coaches' pre-championship poll, tallying 122 points as Shaul and Appleton each earned honorable mention on the All-NCAC Team. The women's championship was won by Oberlin College (56), which edged Allegheny College (58).

Shaul covered the 6K course at Southmont Junior-Senior High School with a time of 24:05.0, crossing in 16th-place individually. She edged her teammate at the line by less than a second, as Appleton was 17th in 24:05.7. Erin Plews-Ogan was also just a few seconds behind in capturing 24th (24:18.9), while also scoring for the Scots were Chelsea Fisher in 35th (24:56.5) and Alyssa Getta in 36th (24:58.1).

In the men's competition, Wooster totaled 222 points and Allegheny, ranked No. 2 in all of NCAA Div. III, won the NCAC trophy (35). The Scots were paced by Kevin DeGroot, who cruised the 8K event in a 27:35.0 time, good for a 31st-place finish. Not far back was Luke Hutchings-Goetz as he earned 42nd in 28:07.9, while Wooster's scoring was rounded out by Micah Caunter in 51st (28:35.0), Jay Marshall in 60th (28:54.9), and Morgan Clark in 68th (29:19.4).

The Scots' next competition will be the Twilight 5K Challenge on Nov. 5.
