Hutchings-Goetz, Shaul Post Record Times at Twilight 5K

Luke Hutchings-Goetz and Meredith Shaul both ran meet-record times for The College of Wooster at its Twilight 5K Challenge Friday evening, as the Fighting Scots and Grove City College tuned up for their respective NCAA Div. III Regional Championships. The annual meet was not team scored.

Hutchings-Goetz crossed the line ahead of the 34 other competitors, covering the course in a time of 15:23.0. His closest competitor was teammate Kevin DeGroot, seven seconds back in second-place (15:30), while also representing Wooster in the lead pack was Micah Caunter in fifth-place (16:00). Just outside the top-10 were Morgan Clark and Gabe Abud in 11th- (16:35) and 12th-place (16:37), respectively.

Shaul produced one of her top performances of the season with a 18:10.0 time, edging Grove City's Ella Smith (18:10.1) at the line as well as 29 others. Colleen O'Neil of the Scots was right behind in third (18:26), and also for the hosts, Sarah Appleton notched sixth (18:47), Monica Ramstad eighth (19:25), and Becky Craig 11th (19:40.0).

Next Saturday, Wooster will be part of the Great Lakes field at the regional meet, hosted by Oberlin College.
