Junior Cameron Gelwicks opened the 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships by lowering his own school-record in the 200-yard freestyle, and turned in a NCAA Div. III "B" cut in the process at 1:39.98 to headline the opening night of action at Denison University's Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, Ohio.

Gelwicks, who led off the 800 free relay, had The College of Wooster positioned in second-place after the opening leg, but the Fighting Scots settled for fifth-place by the race's end at 6:51.84. Classmates Ryan Campbell and Max Koch, and first-year Wyatt Foss comprised the other three legs of the Scots' "A" relay.

In the women's 800 free relay, the quartet of Emma Fikse, Lexi Riley-DiPaolo, Nell Kacmarek, and Sarah Padrutt placed fourth and just outside all-conference honors at 7:44.67.

The men's 3-meter diving event was also contested on Wednesday evening, so the Scots' men enter action on Thursday in seventh-place, while the women are in fourth.

Thursday's prelim session is slated for a 10 a.m. start with the evening's finals set to commence at 6:30 p.m.
