32 Year Old Record Broken in First Indoor Meet of Season

A 30-plus year-old men's indoor record was broken by a first-year as The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field teams opened its indoor season on Saturday with the Wooster Invitational.

The Wittenberg University men edged out the Scots 145.5-141.5. Ohio Wesleyan University (113) came in third and Oberlin College finished fourth (83).

For the women, Wittenberg came out on top as well, scoring 191 points. Wooster claimed second with 105, while Ohio Wesleyan finished third (73) and Oberlin fourth (54).

However, one of the main stories was first-year King Jeju who reached 24 feet and one inch in the long jump, shattering the school record of 22 feet, 9.75 inches which was set by Mark Marando in 1992.

The jump currently ranks fourth in the nation.

Jeju later showed his speed when he finished second in the 60 meter dash at 7.19 seconds.

Other winners included Rob Mays III, who won the shot put with a throw of 43 feet, 10.75 inches, which he achieved on his second throw.

Senior Dylan Garretson was in midseason form as the senior won the pole vault, clearing 16 feet, 0.75 inch.

Junior Will Callender led the distance runners in the 3,000 meters, finishing in 8:55.72 for first.

Elsewhere, junior Echo Kidd placed second in the triple jump at 41 feet, 1.5 inches.

Junior Drew Robertson was the top Scot to finish in the 800 meters, placing second with a time of 2:02.56.

Essaie Mezmur (6 feet, 1.25 inches) finished third in the high jump while Robbie Kugler (6 feet) tied for fourth.

The 4x400 team of Joe ShiltsCam RayZane DeMercurio and Robertson finished second with a time of 3:38.81.

The 4x200 team of Lorenzo FreemanLiam ReganCooper Norwell and Khaleel Manderson finished third in a time of 1:35.48.

Ray finished fifth in the 400 meters (54.62 seconds), while Henry Schneiderman did the same in the mile (5:17.55).

The women had a trio of winners, starting with Drew Patterson who won the triple jump at 33 feet, two inches. She also reached 4 feet, 11.5 inches to finish third in the high jump.

Junior Daysia Hargrave won the 60 meter hurdles by .08 seconds with a winning time of 9.60 seconds.

Sophomore Evie Sanford won the shot put at 38 feet, 7.75 inches. She also was fifth in the weight throw (40 feet).

Ainsley Wiesner started her season off by finishing third in the weight throw at 48 feet, 0.5 inch and third in the shot put at 36 feet, 8.25 inches.

Senior Athena Tharenos was second in the 800 meters (2:26.01).

The women finished third in the distance medley relay. The team of Igna MendezAmy GabrovsekZanna Anderson and Tharenos ran a time of 13:37.34.

In the 4x200, the women ran a time of 1:53.60 behind the team of Kayelene Harris, Patterson, Claire Davis and Izzy Cozzie.

Finally, the 4x400 team finished third in 4:22.62 behind Cozzie, Tharenos, Anderson and Mendez.

The Scots will return next Saturday when they host the Fighting Scots Invitational.
