Sophomore Simon Weyer gets ready to push past a Baldwin Wallace competitor. Weyer went on to win the men's 5K.

The College of Wooster cross country team won two of the four races, and had the top-three finishers in the women's 4K, to headline the Fighting Scots' results from the season lid-lifting Wooster Invitational, which took place Thursday at the challenging L.C. Boles Golf & Footgolf Course on campus.

The non-scoring annual meet, featured four different events – the women's 4K, women's 5K, men's 5K, and men's four mile – with participants from Baldwin Wallace University and Oberlin College joining Wooster on the course.

Junior Mackenzie Kellar navigated the hilly 4K course and outran the 23 other competitors, crossing first at 16:14.8, a time that was backed up by sophomore Emani Kelley's 16:27.8 and sophomore Collier Summay's 16:36.5.

A number of newcomers for the Scots showed strong potential in that race, as first-years Audrey Cordova (17:03.5), Cobi Warstler (17:13.4), and Sara Farmer (17:25.1) all posted top-10 finishes in the 4K. Rising sophomore Sophie Hawkins had a strong kick-start to the season as well, finishing right there with the trio of first-years with an eighth-place time of 17:15.5

Also of note, senior Kayla Zboran crossed as Wooster's top finisher in the women's 5K, where she took 10th at 21:26.0.

On the men's side, sophomore Simon Weyer overtook a Baldwin Wallace competitor down the stretch to lead a talented field of 17 runners in the men's 5K to cross first at 18:56.1. Senior Blake Pecoraro placed third (21:56.7) in the competitive four-mile field that consisted of 35 competitors.

Other notable performances were turned in by sophomore Andrew Gold, junior Jacob Nowell, and senior Aram Gibson, who placed sixth through eighth respectively in the men's 5K, and all clocked in at under 20 minutes. Junior Geoffrey Carney-Knisely added 11th-place honors in the four-mile race, while freshmen Aedan Pettit had a solid debut with a 13th-place clip of 22:58.5.

Wooster will return to action next Thursday in a dual-meet against Denison University at L.C. Boles Golf & Footgolf Course.
