WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster combined two big innings of offense with strong performances from four of its pitchers for a 7-2 victory over Baldwin Wallace University during Thursday's non-league action at Art Murray Field.

Wooster (14-5) scored all seven of its runs in two innings, first plating three in the bottom of the second. Joey Gilmore produced the key hit – a two-out double over the left fielder – that plated Jamie Lackner and Drew Tornow, both of whom had drawn walks. Chandler Dippman brought Gilmore around as he went the opposite way with a bloop single into the left-center gap.

That gave starting pitcher Tyler Schuch a 3-0 lead to work with and the junior southpaw made it hold up through six innings of work. He only gave up a solo homer to Cole Nieto in the fourth and worked out of a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the sixth by only yielding one run on a sacrifice fly.

The Fighting Scots then turned the 3-2 advantage over to James Usher, who set down Baldwin Wallace (11-16) in order in the seventh.

During the bottom of that inning, Wooster built a substantial lead by scoring four times. Tornow took a leadoff walk, Schuch singled sharply up the middle to put runners on the corners, then Gilmore laid down a bunt. The pitcher fielded the ball cleanly and threw home, only to see Tornow slide under the tag to make it 4-2.

After another successful sacrifice bunt, this time Dippman advancing runners to second and third, the Yellow Jackets had their infield playing in. Jake Fling grounded one to the shortstop's backhand and he attempted to get pinch runner Jacob Stuursma at the plate, but the throw was off line for another score.

Kenny Reckart followed by stroking a single into right-center to plate Gilmore and get Fling to third, and Michael Wielansky drove in Fling via a grounder for the five-run cushion.

Hank Schlueter and Michael Whitaker combined to keep the Yellow Jackets off the base paths during the eighth and ninth, with Schlueter facing four batters and Whitaker two. That allowed Schuch to up his record to a perfect 3-0 this season.

No Scots had more than one hit on the afternoon, however, Tornow did reach safely three times with a triple and the two walks during four plate appearances.

Nieto accounted for two of Baldwin Wallace's hits, completing his fourth-inning home run with a double in the sixth.

Wooster will play Case Western Reserve University (18-12) in three games this weekend, with the first two to take place on Saturday at Art Murray Field. Please note the starting time has been moved up an hour to noon.
