The College of Wooster scored six times in the third inning for a 7-1 lead and hung on late for a 9-6 win over the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg on Thursday afternoon during non-conference action in western Pennsylvania.

It was tied 1-1 when Wooster (16-8) broke through offensively during the top of the third, taking advantage of a couple of errors along the way. Jake Fling and Kenny Reckart opened the frame by drawing walks, followed by a throwing miscue by the third baseman that allowed the first run of the inning to come across. Jamie Lackner then drove in two on a single into left field.

Next, another error was committed by Pitt.-Greensburg (16-14) and Jacob Solomon took a walk to load the bases for Chris Fafalios, who delivered a run-scoring single into center. Alex Tench worked the count to 3-2 on his way to an RBI walk to make it 6-1, still without an out recorded as the Fighting Scots' first eight batters of the frame reached safely.

Wooster scored once more in the third, courtesy of a Chandler Dippman sacrifice fly.

With two more runs coming in the fifth inning via RBI singles from Reckart and Michael Wielansky for a 9-1 cushion, the Scots seemed to be on their way to an easy win. They had received five scoreless innings from Zach Woullard and Wyatt Linde on the mound, two by the former and three by the latter.

However, the Bobcats plated two in the bottom of the eighth and then continued their rally in the ninth. They scored three times, highlighted by an Anthony Pacelli RBI double, and had runners on first and second, thus bringing the tying run to the plate when Wielansky was summoned to the mound.

Wooster's new closer threw two quick strikes to Matt Germanoski and then induced him into a game-ending fly out. It marked Wielansky's second save in as many days.

Wielansky also led the Scots' offense with a two-hit afternoon (2-for-4), while Lackner contributed three RBI.

Anthony Bozzuto had a strong outing for Pitt.-Greensburg, going 3-for-5 with three RBI.

The Scots return to North Coast Athletic Conference East Division play this weekend with a four-game series at Hiram College (6-20, 3-9 NCAC East), starting Saturday at noon.
