Tyler Schuch and Zach Woullard threw respective complete-game efforts and the offense provided just enough to get past Oberlin College during a 3-2 opening win and plenty late in a 14-2 game-two victory, headlined by a Michael Wielansky grand slam, as the Fighting Scots swept their conference foe at Oberlin, Ohio.

Wooster (24-9, 12-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) did not give Schuch a lot of run support, but he didn't need it. After giving up a run on two hits in the first inning, the junior southpaw settled in and yielded just four other hits – all singles – and he finished particularly strong.

Oberlin (13-22, 5-9 NCAC) scored a second run in the fourth, then Schuch allowed just a two-out single in the fifth the rest of the way as he set the home team down 1-2-3 in each of the last two innings for the first complete game of his career. While improving to 6-1 on the season, Schuch struck out four.

The critical offense of the game came in the top of the sixth, which started with a leadoff double by Jamie Lackner. He moved to third the next at bat when Ryan Ostendorf singled through the right side and scored what held up as the game-winning run during a double play.

Prior to that, the Scots put up single runs in the second and third. Ostendorf beat out an infield single to begin the second and eventually came home on a Kenny Reckart RBI groundout, and in the third, they loaded the bases on three-straight singles with no outs and Jake Fling scored on a double-play ball.

Also of note during game one, Joey Gilmore provided a key play as the right fielder gunned out a runner attempting to score to end the third inning, maintaining Wooster's 2-1 lead at the time.

Woullard tossed his second complete game of the year, third of his career, by limiting the Yeomen to just a pair of third-inning runs. Overall, he gave up eight hits and a couple of walks, but was rarely threatened after the third to up his record to 5-1.

The Scots also scored twice in the third, thanks to doubles by both Fling and Wielansky, and it remained 2-2 through five innings of play.

Wielansky delivered his biggest hit of the day in the sixth. Reckart and Fling singles, plus a Gilmore walk, loaded the bases for the talented freshman, and he slammed a 1-0 pitch over the fence in left for his fourth home run this season and a 6-2 lead.

Wooster added a single tally during the seventh inning via an RBI double off the bat of Gilmore, then put the game away with a four-run eighth and three-run ninth, highlighted by a Drew Tornow solo homer.

In addition to Wielansky's heroics (3-for-8, 5 RBI), Fling had a big day with three hits in each game for a combined 6-for-9 outing and Reckart was 4-for-8 while driving in three runs.

Wooster will be at Oberlin for another doubleheader Sunday, beginning at noon.
