Houdek's Shutout Earns Left-Hander Second Career NCAC Pitcher-of-the-Week Honor

 Michael Houdek

For the second straight week, The College of Wooster baseball team earned the North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week honor with junior Michael Houdek earning the accolade, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Houdek set the tone for the Fighting Scots during their crossover series sweep of Wabash College over the weekend. The left-hander tossed his first complete-game shutout of the season in the series-opening 3-0 win over the Little Giants. Houdek scattered six hits, walked just three batters, and struck out six to improve to 7-2 on the season, lowering his ERA to 2.99 in the process.

Notable, the nine innings of work marked a career-high for the junior, while the complete game was his fourth of the year, and the team's ninth.

Houdek previously earned the NCAC's weekly pitching honor on April 20, 2015 in recognition for his seven-inning, five-hit shutout against Hiram College.

The lefty's outing comes on the tail of Nanak Saran, who earned the honor last week for his 16 innings of scoreless work.

Wooster (30-10) opens play in the NCAC Tournament with a 3 p.m. tilt against Ohio Wesleyan University (27-12) on Thursday in Chillicothe, Ohio.
