A Look Back at the Last NCAC Championships: Wooster placed fourth at the 2019 NCAC Championships, with that finish marking the program's highest since 2013. Then-junior Jimmy Hinton earned a spot on the all-conference team after tying for 13th-place at 152. Then-senior Andrew DeLaat was at the forefront of Wooster's Sunday charge with a 3-over-par 155. In fact, all five Scots in the lineup turned in scores in the 70s, with Wooster's 307 in the final round ranking as the fourth-lowest team score of the day.
Happy Birthday: Senior David Roney rang in his 22nd birthday with medalist honors at 1-over-par, as Wooster picked up its first two wins of the season against Allegheny College and Hiram College back on April 3. Playing at Wooster's home track, Roney moved back to even-par with a birdie at the par-3, 168-yard No. 8 at Wooster Country Club. Roney was at 1-under-par through 14 with a birdie on the par-5, 466-yard 13th hole. He's currently tops on the team with a 77.9 average.
The Other Wylie Vet: Junior Ben Foltz is the Scots' other experienced linkster this spring, as the computer science major and Roney are the only two non-first-years on the Scots roster this year. Foltz is set to make his first appearance at the NCAC Championships this week.
Youth Movement: Wooster has 10 first-years on its squad this season, with the rookies hailing from four different states – Indiana, Georgia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. In fact, two of the Scots' rookie linksters – David Dennis and Jack Donahue – were high school classmates at Grove City High School.
Now That's How You Start: First-year Tyler Hilbert's collegiate career got off to a roaring start, as the intended business economics major carded birdies on his first two collegiate holes – the par-5, 491-yard No. 1 and the par-4, 377-yard No. 2 at Wooster Country Club.
Scots Go Low: Wooster shot a 308 at the par-70, 6,503-yard Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna, Ohio, back on April 11 for the team's low round of the spring. All four scorers for Wooster shot in the 70s, a first for the program since the second round of the 2019 Wabash College Fall Golf Classic. Less than a week later, Wooster went even lower with a 307 against Kenyon at the Denison Golf Club.
Wooster Alumni Qualify for U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championships: John Angelo '13 – the third-place finisher at the 2013 NCAC Men's Golf Championship Series and the medalist at event two – and Marcus Carano '16 – a three-time All-NCAC performer – fired a 10-under-par 62 at Mayfield Sand Ridge Club in Chardon, Ohio, back on October 5 to qualify for the upcoming U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championships at Chambers Bay in May.
