DANBURY, Conn. – The College of Wooster men's lacrosse team won its first game in 2019 after a 13-9 win over Western Connecticut State on Saturday.

Shaun Peirce scored four goals and dished out two assists to lead the Scots. Cooper Pewitt and Ted Wells each had three goals to follow.

Goalkeeper Wesley Wagner made 13 saves for his first win.

Wooster fell behind early with two quick goals from the opposition. However, Peirce got the Scots on the board with an assist from Wells.

After Western Connecticut State made it a 3-1 game, Wooster went up in the final four minutes of the period. Pewitt scored, while Wells and Zach Cunanan scored man up goals. Peirce assisted on both man up goals.

Western Connecticut State started the second period with a goal, but three unanswered from the Scots gave them a three-goal cushion. Cullen Kuhn, Peirce and Wells all scored in that span. Wooster entered halftime leading 7-6.

The third quarter was the difference of the game as Wooster scored four unanswered in the period. Pewitt, Connor Mangan, Peirce and Wells scored to give Wooster an 11-6 lead after three quarters of play.

Peirce and Pewitt scored in the fourth as Western Connecticut State put up three more goals, but the third quarter gave Wooster enough of a lead to secure the win.

Wooster succeeded in the face off game with a 17-of-26 successful rate and also collected 32 ground balls.

The Scots are now 1-5 on the year, while Western Connecticut State drops to 4-3. The Scots travel to Capital University on Wednesday.
