Freshman Autumn Brostek tied the first game at two in the top of the third inning, but host Heidelberg University swept The College of Wooster softball team 7-2 and 12-1 on Friday afternoon at Tiffin, Ohio.

Heidelberg (24-10), a NCAA Div. III "Super Regional" participant a year ago, jumped out to a 2-0 lead through two innings in the first game. Starter Rylee Bouillion and Wooster's (15-21) defense limited the damage stranding five Berg runners on base, including in the second inning when Bouillon induced an inning-ending groundout against Heidelberg's cleanup hitter with the bases loaded.

Wooster really got going offensive in the third inning. First, Jenna Kendall, Maddy Chase, and Bridget Serrurier recorded three straight singles to load the bases to start the frame. Then, Stephenie Little made it four straight hits by Wooster to make it a 2-1 game. Two batters later, Brostek knotted the contest at two with an opposite-field single.

Wooster again worked out of a jam in the bottom of the frame with Chase coming on in relief to strike out a pair and induce a groundout, stranding two more Berg runners in the process.

Heidelberg went on to plate the go-ahead run in the fourth inning, and add four insurance runs in the sixth.

Wooster had a prime chance to answer back in the fifth inning when Chelsea Copley laced a one-out double to left field prior to advancing to third on a Linea Brouse two-out single. However, this time it was Heidelberg's turn to work out of the jam and strand a pair of Wooster runners on base.

Chase (11-9) took the loss in the circle allowing four runs in three innings of work. Notable, the right-hander recorded five strikeouts on the afternoon.

In the nightcap, Heidelberg scored in each inning, with Mikaela Mitsch and Bailey Smith delivering the big knocks with a pair of two-run doubles.

Coincidentally, Wooster scored its run in the second game in the third inning with Chase coming in to score on an illegal pitch. The Scots' sophomore had reached earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice, moved up to second on a wild pitch, and advanced to third on a Serrurier single.

Bouillion (0-1) took the loss in the circle.

At the plate, Serrurier led the Scots on the afternoon with four hits while Brouse and Chase each tallied three base knocks.

Notable, Serrurier upped her season hit count to 44, a total tied for sixth in the program annals.

Wooster was without the services of its four seniors – Kasey Fiedler, Marissa Gorvet, Taylor Raybuck, and Kristyn Swanson – as the quartet spent Friday showcasing their undergraduate research projects during the College's annual "Senior Research Symposium."

Next, Wooster (6-8 North Coast Athletic Conference) closes out its season with a 1 p.m. home conference twin bill against Oberlin College (2-33, 1-13 NCAC) on Saturday.
