Wiesner Improves Weight Throw Record, Scots Projected to Have at Least Three National Qualifiers

Ainsley Wiesner, Wooster Track & Field ALLIANCE, Ohio – Senior Ainsley Wiesner improved her positioning nationally in the weight throw to move into the "very strong likelihood" category of earning a spot in next week's NCAA Div. III Championships to headline the performances at Saturday's University of Mount Union Last Chance Meet.

Wiesner entered the day inside the cut line of top-20 nationally with the 19th-best weight throw of 56 feet, 11.5 inches, and the senior upped her school record to 58 feet, 1 inch on attempt five of six. Wiesner now ranks 13th as of the start of the day results reported in the national database.

First-year King Jeju, a lock to qualify for the national championships in the long jump, is vying to be a two-event national qualifier. He started the day tied for 19th in the 60-meter dash at 6.85 seconds. Jeju nearly matched that with a 6.86 in finals and is now in wait-and-see mode for when the national qualification list comes out on Sunday, March 3.

Senior Dylan Garretson, set to make his fifth start at the national championships in the pole vault, owns the third-best mark nationally at 16 feet, 7.5 inches. The 2022 NCAA Div. III fourth-place indoor pole vaulter cleared 15 feet, 5 inches on Saturday.

Other Scots who competed on Saturday were sophomore Lorenzo Freeman (60-meter hurdles, 8.46), junior Daysia Hargrave (60-meter hurdles, 9.06), junior Echo Kidd (long jump, 21 feet), senior Drew Patterson (high jump, 5 feet, 1.25 inches), and sophomore Evie Sanford (shot put, 38 feet, 10.5 inches).

Hargrave is also in wait-and-see mode after starting the day with the 22nd-fastest 60-meter hurdles time in Div. III. The junior will need several scratches due to those with top-20 60-meter hurdles time pulling out of the event due to pentathlon seeding.

The NCAA Div. III Championships qualifier announcement is set to come out on Sunday.
