Scots Win Five Events at Oberlin Invite

OBERLIN – The College of Wooster track and field teams competed at Oberlin College on Friday and Saturday for its Bob Kahn Invitational.

The Scots had five overall winners and a plethora of second place finishes in the non-scoring meet.

Most notably, senior Athena Tharenos won the marathon that is the 10,000-meter run with a time of 37:40.36. It is the third-best time ran in the event in program history.

Classmate Ainsley Wiesner picked up where she left off in the indoor season. She finished first in the hammer throw at 157 feet, 11 inches.

Daysia Hargrave's work in the hurdles paid off, placing first in the 400 hurdles at 1:06.64. She also was second in the 100 hurdles in 15.67 seconds.

The men also had a pair of winners as King Jeju won the long jump with a jump of 23 feet, two inches. Dylan Garretson also took first in the pole vault at 16 feet, .75 inches, slightly better than the height he reached at the Indoor Championships earlier this month.

Looking at those who just missed out on first place, Drew Robertson ran a 4:03.75 for second in the 1500 meters. He also had a second place showing in the 800 meters (2:01.87). In another distance race, Ben Nichols was second in the 5,000 with a time of 16:02.51.

Back to the women, Drew Patterson was second in the high jump at five feet, one inch.

In the shot put, Evie Sanford threw 36 feet, 1.25 inches for second place. Her throw in the discus was also good enough for second place at 121 feet, one inch.

Izzy Cozzie came through for third place in the 200 dash with a time of 27.03 seconds. Patterson followed in fifth (27.40).  Patterson also ran a 13.67 for fifth in the 100 dash.

Dylan Kretchmar also finished third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 19:25.18.

In other men's finishes, Essaie Mezmur placed fourth in the high jump at 6 feet, .75 inches.

Joe Shilts placed fifth in the 110 hurdles (17.87) and fifth in the 400 hurdles (57.48).

Robert Mays was fourth in the shot put (42 feet), and Braydon Hudson was fifth in the discus (120 feet, 8 inches.).

Next, the Scots will host its only spring meet of the season April 5-6 when they welcome teams for the Wooster Invitational.
