Scots Win Four Events at Bob Shannon Invite
Hargrave a two-time winner
GRANVILLE, Ohio – Senior Daysia Hargrave, senior Echo Kidd, senior Drew Robertson, and The College of Wooster women's 4x400 relay consisting of junior Izzy Cozzie, senior Igna Mendez, Hargrave, and first-year Breena Katz were event winners for the Fighting Scots at Saturday's Bob Shannon Invitational, contested at Denison University. Wooster's men were fourth of nine scoring teams with 59 points, while the women were sixth of nine teams at 60 points.
Kidd accounted for 16 of Wooster's men's points. The senior went 21 feet, 10.25 inches to win the long jump, while the high jump clearance of 6 feet ranked third in the field.
Robertson cruised to the win in the 3,000 meters, breaking the tape at 8:47.49. Case Western Reserve University's Jacob Slater was the closest competitor, crossing at 8:53.57.
Cozzie, Mendez, Hargrave, and Katz sprinted to a 4:14.30 in the 4x400 relay, which capped the meet. They edged out CWRU's relay of Siena Kannenberg, Arianna Holbrook, Grace Misiunas, and Melanie Taylor, who teamed up for a 4:14.53. The first-place showing was Hargrave's second of the day. The 2024 All-American posted a season-best time of 9.2, which led the 60-hurdles field in prelims, then went 9.09 to win the final. Hargrave moved into the top-30 nationally with her 9.09.
Junior Evie Sanford went 39 feet, 3 inches for runner-up honors in the shot put. The runner-up showing was matched by the men's relays. Wooster's 4x200 with sophomore Cam Sentieri, senior Liam Regan, sophomore Cooper Norwell, and senior Cam Ray was second with a time of 1:35.02. The runner-up 4x400 time of 3:36.06 was turned in by the same quartet in the 4x400 relay, with the order being Regan, Sentieri, Norwell, and Ray.
Junior Sarah Hiestand cleared 9 feet, 0.25 inch for third in the pole vault. Wooster's fourth-place effort came from senior Amelia Mitchell in the high jump (4 feet, 10.25 inches). Fifth-place was where senior Ben Nichols finished in the mile (4:43.58). Other fifth-places came from junior Anaya Brady in the high jump (4 feet, 8.25 inches), Cozzie in the 200 meters (27.52), senior Ben Nichols in the mile (4:43.58), Ray in the 400 meters (53.02), and senior Vell Robinson in the pole vault (11 feet, 5.25 inches).
Wooster's top-six scoring showings were rounded out by sophomore Colette Christopher in the 3,000 meters (13:59.48), sophomore Claire Davis in the triple jump (31 feet, 1.25 inches), senior Isabelle Dwyer in the mile (5:57.52), senior Hayden Jacoby in the pole vault (10 feet, 5.5 inches), and Mitchell in the 200 meters (27.54).
Host Denison led the nine-team men's field with 138.50 points. CWRU topped the leaderboard on the women's side with 119 points.
Next, Wooster competes at the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Otterbein University on Saturday, February 15.
