Wooster Splits with NCAC Rival Denison in Dual Meet

The College of Wooster cross country teams split in a dual meet with North Coast Athletic Conference rival Denison University on Thursday afternoon at the L.C. Boles Golf & Footgolf Course on campus. The Fighting Scots' women topped the Big Red 23-37, while Denison won the men's race 18-38.

On the women's side, senior Kayla Zboran led the 21-competitor field with a time of 15:40.3 on the 4K course, over 10 seconds better than the second-place clip turned in by Denison's Anna Fash (15:40.4).

While Big Red competitors finished second and third, a quartet of runners secured the win for the Scots, as Wooster harriers occupied the fourth-through-seventh-place spots in the final results. Sophomore Collier Summay led that quartet to the line at 16:09.8, and was closely followed by junior Mackenzie Kellar (16:14.4), sophomore Emani Kelley (16:16.8), and freshman Cobi Warstler (16:37.9).

Denison's Jacob Dennie led the 31-competitor male race, navigating the 5K course in 16:39.71. Overall, the Big Red occupied five of the top six placements.

Senior Blake Pecoraro was the first Scot to cross, and he turned in a 17:05.5 clip, which was good for third in the race.

Senior Herbert Sizek crossed second for Wooster, with his 17:54.6 ranking seventh in the field. Sophomore Jackson Feinknopf and senior Jason Solinsky added top-10 finishes with times of 18:04.7 and 18:10.5 respectively, while freshman Aedan Pettit rounded out the scorers with an 11th-place clip of 18:26.6.

Next, Wooster is in action at the Otterbein Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 17.
