Sanford, Robertson Winners at Wooster Invite
Scots compete in first indoor meet of season
The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field teams competed in its first indoor meet of the season on Saturday, hosting the Wooster Invitational.
Wooster had two winners on the day, one each from the men's and women's side.
Senior Drew Robertson won the 3000 meters in a time of 9:04.33, while two others finished in the top five. Classmates Ben Nichols (9:27.20) and Eric Johnson (9:32.89) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.
For the women, junior Evie Sanford claimed the top spot in the shot put, throwing 39 feet, 11.5 inches.
Sanford also was sixth (37 feet, 6.75 inches) in the weight throw, while Samarah Destin (36 feet, 6.25 inches) came in seventh.
Continuing with the women, senior Daysia Hargrave ran well for her first 60 hurdles race of the year, finishing second with a time of 9.22 seconds.=
In the 4x200, Wooster finished fourth (1:57.22) thanks to the team of Maia Doescher, Claire Davis, Emily Munson and Izzy Cozzie.
Seniors Amelia Mitchell and Daysia Hargrave each reached four feet, nine inches to place seventh and eighth, respectively, in the high jump.
Senior Igna Mendez finished the mile in 5:49.99 for third, while Isabelle Dwyer ran a 6:17.31 for eighth. Senior Elise Greenwald was seventh in the 3000 meters (10:58.52).
Junior Sarah Hiestand reached nine feet, .25 inches for fifth in the pole vault.
For the men, sophomore Elijah Stewart led Wooster throwers with a second-place finish in the shot put (41 feet, 8 inches). Junior Robert Mays threw 40 feet, 5 inches for fourth place.
Senior Echo Kidd started his season strong with a third-place finish in the high jump (six feet, 1.5 inches), while sophomore Zephan Deal placed eighth (five feet, 7.75 inches)
The men's 4x200 team of Cameron Sentieri, Cooper Norwell, Cam Ray and Liam Regan finished third at 1:34.83). The same four placed fifth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:40.89.
In the pole vault, Vell Robinson finished fifth (11 feet, 5.75 inches) and Hayden Jacoby finished sixth (10 feet, 6 inches).
Three scored in the mile as Jack Schuller placed sixth (4:58.74), Grant Mentzer placed eighth (5:10.37) and Charles Cuttino ninth (5:18). Junior Zane DeMercurio placed eighth at 2:09.88 in the 800 meters.
Wittenberg won with 155 points on the women's side and 162.5 on the men's. The Wooster women placed sixth (51) out of six teams, while the men placed fifth (64).
Next, the Scots will host the Fighting Scots Invitational on Jan. 25.
