Hargrave Breaks Hurdle School Record, Three Scots Land on Podium at All-Ohio Championships
Callender, Robertson join Hargrave with All-Ohio honors
WESTERVILLE, Ohio - Senior Daysia Hargrave broke her own school record to lead The College of Wooster indoor track and field program at the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Otterbein University inside the Clements Recreation Center.
All-Ohio honors are awarded to the top-three finishers in each event. Hargrave, senior Drew Robertson, and senior Will Callender all collected accolades for the Fighting Scots. Meanwhile, the men's team finished ninth of 16 teams with 32 points and the women placed 11th of 15 teams with 20 points. The University of Mount Union was the champion on both the men's and the women's side, totaling 124 points and 108.5 points, respectively.
Hargrave had a solid showing in the 60-hurdle preliminaries, winning her heat and posting a season-best time of 9.01 seconds. However, the senior turned on the jets in the finals en route to winning the All-Ohio title in a school-record 8.81 seconds, breaking her previous record by 0.05 seconds. Her time now ranks the second-fastest in the NCAC and ties for the ninth-fastest in NCAA Div. III this season.
Both Robertson and Callender finished as runners-up in their respective events for All-Ohio honors. Robertson put together a career-best 4:21.73 in the mile, while Callender had a season-best 8:54.17 in the 3,000-meter run.
All three relays added to the men's team score, led by the distance medley relay team. Robertson, sophomore Nate Chartrand, junior Zane DeMercurio, and senior Ben Nichols narrowly missed out on All-Ohio honors by finishing fourth in 10:51.06, which is the fastest event time in the NCAC at the time of the meet. Senior Liam Regan, sophomore Cooper Norwell, sophomore Cam Sentieri, and senior Cam Ray teamed up for both the 4x200-meter relay and the 4x400-meter relay and posted a pair of season-best times. The quad finished sixth in the 4x200 in 1:34.06 and seventh in the 4x400 in a time of 3:31.41.
In the field, senior Echo Kidd had a season-best mark of 22 feet, 2.5 inches to place fifth in the long jump and also finished ninth in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet, 7.5 inches. Elsewhere, senior Eric Johnson went 16:12.46 for seventh in the 5,000 meters.
Along with Hargrave, a majority of the team's points came from the relays. The distance medley relay team of sophomore Zanna Anderson, junior Amy Gabrovsek, senior Igna Mendez, and senior Isabelle Dwyer placed fifth in a time of 13:39.60, which now ranks them third in the NCAC at the time of the meet. Sophomore Claire Davis, first-year Emeili Tarpy, sophomore Ellie Fox, and senior Amelia Mitchell finished seventh in the 4x200 relay in 1:51.15 while Gabrovsek, Fox, Hargrave, and Mendez placed eighth in the 4x400 in a time of 4:19.57.
