Scots Compete at Kenyon Classic
Wooster preps in final meet before NCAC Championships
GAMBIER – The College of Wooster men's and women's track and field teams competed against the likes of Kenyon College and Ohio Wesleyan University in the Kenyon Classic, a non-scoring event, on Friday night.
On the women's side, junior Evie Sanford won the shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 8.75 inches. She also was fourth in the weight throw after throwing a season best of 42 feet, 1.25 inches.
Senior Amelia Mitchell tied a season-best of four feet, 11 inches in the high jump to win the event. Junior Sarah Hiestand reached 10 feet, 2.5 inches for third in the pole vault.
First-year Emeili Tarpy finished fourth in the long jump (15 feet, two inches) for Wooster's best placement in the event.
Sophomore Zanna Anderson won unopposed in the 1000 meters at 3:27.75, while junior Izzy Cozzie ran a 1:03.34 in the 400 for second.
In the mile, Isabelle Dwyer ran a 5:52.11 to top teammate Eilidh Horn's 6:25.43.
For the men, senior Drew Robertson had the fastest time in the 1000 meters at 2:34.34.
Wooster filled all four spots in the mile as junior Joe Ahmann's time of 4:47.84 scored the best.
Sophomore Nate Chartrand won the 400 meters in 51.98 seconds, a new season high mark for the Scots in the event.
Cam Ray did the same in the 200 meters, finishing fifth in 23.77 seconds.
Rob Mays III won the shot put with a season-best throw of 42 feet, two inches. He also was fourth in the weight throw at 40 feet, 4.75 inches.
Junior Hayden Jacoby leaped 10 feet, six inches for third in the pole vault.
Finally, the 4x400 team of Zane DeMercurio, Robert Hillhouse, Jake George and Reese Johnson ran a time of 3:40.84 to win the four-team field.
This weekend, select Scots – Daysia Hargrave on the women's side and Aaron Denis, Vell Robinson on the men's - will compete in the heptathlon and pentathlon to kick off the North Coast Athletic Indoor Championships at Oberlin College. The meet will continue with track and field events Feb. 28 through March 1.
