Looking Back at Last Year's NCAC Indoor Championships: Both the Wooster men and women placed fourth, scoring 90 and 79 points, respectively. Wittenberg swept the competition for both the men's and women's titles. Will Callender was named Distance Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive year. The men earned eight All-NCAC accolades and four titles (pole vault, long jump, 200 meters, 5,000 meters). The women claimed five All-NCAC certificates and three titles (shot put, 60 meter hurdles, weight throw).
This Year's Pre-Championship Poll: Once again, the Wittenberg women are favored to win with seven first place votes in the pre-championship coaches poll (63). Wooster was voted to finish seventh, just two points behind Oberlin. On the men's side, Wabash College (76) was voted to dethrone the reigning champions after receiving five first place votes to Wittenberg's (75) three. Wooster was voted to finish seventh.
Heptathlon/Pentathlon Recap: Senior Daysia Hargrave added to her collection, now holding 11 All-NCAC honors during her time at Wooster. Hargrave earned a 2,985-point performance, only eight points away from her collegiate best, giving her a third-place finish and Wooster its first All-NCAC certificate of the season. Senior Vell Robinson placed 10th and sophomore Aaron Denis placed 11th.
The Best Things Come in Threes: Junior Evie Sanford is looking to earn her third title as the NCAC Champion in shot put. She won last year's event with a throw of 41 feet, 3 inches, outdoing her championship throw from her first year (40 feet, 2 inches). Her performance this season has placed her as one of top finishers consistently, with a season-best throw of 39 feet, 11.5 inches.
Going the Distance: Senior Will Callender won his second NCAC Distance Runner of the Year after finishing strong in two events. His 5,000-meter time of 14:56.50 won, while his 3,000 meter time of 8:39.94 placed him second and broke the school record, which he previously held at a time of 8:40.60. Senior Drew Robertson has had an impressive season, running his career-best 4:21.73 in the mile at the All-Ohio championships. This season, Roberston won the 3,000 meter event during the Bob Shannon Invitational with a time of 8:47.49, putting himself in a good place for an All-NCAC performance.
Hurdling the Competition: Hargrave's performance at the All-Ohio Championships this season moved the senior into the top-10 nationally. Her collegiate-best at 8.81 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles earned a first place finish. After earning NCAC Athlete of the Week honors and recording a 9.00 in the pentathlon, just shy of her personal-best, Hargrave is looking to find herself atop the podium once again.
Ready for the Relay: The distance medley relay team of sophomore Zanna Anderson, junior Amy Gabrovsek, senior Igna Mendez, and senior Isabelle Dwyer placed fifth in a time of 13:39.60 at the All-Ohio Championships. This performance, at the time of the meet, placed the Scots third in the NCAC and could put them in contention for an All-NCAC performance. On the men' side, the 4x400 team could find themselves in the mix as well. The team of senior Liam Regan, sophomore Cooper Norwell, sophomore Cam Sentieri and senior Cam Ray have had some stellar performances with their current best at a time of 3:32.41.
Jumping In: Currently sitting with the best scores of the year in high jump, long jump, triple jump for the Scots, senior Echo Kidd is looking to cap off this indoor season with some personal bests. He leads the team in three categories - high jump (6 feet, 2.75 inches), long jump (22 feet, 2.5 inches), and triple jump (41 feet, 8 inches). On the women's side, senior Amelia Mitchell is looking to jump over the competition in the high jump. Her season best performance is 4 feet, 11 inches.
