Callender Earns All-NCAC Honors to Kick Off NCAC Championships
Women sixth, men seventh after Friday’s competition
OBERLIN -- Will Callender gave The College of Wooster track and field teams its first All-NCAC certificate as the senior placed third in the 5,000 meters to open the North Coast Athletic Conference Championships on Friday, hosted by Oberlin College.
Last year's NCAC Indoor Middle-Distance/Distance Athlete of the Year,
Callender ran a time of 15:03.71. It was his third time earning All-NCAC honors in the event.
After Friday, the men are seventh of nine teams with 12 points while the women are sixth of eight with 14 points.
Continuing with men's scorers, senior Echo Kidd jumped to a fifth place finish in the long jump at 22 feet, 0.25 inches.
Elsewhere, the men's distance medley relay team scored two points after a seventh-place finish. The team of Zane DeMercurio, Cam Sentieri, Eric Johnson and Ben Nichols ran a time of 10:57.72.
In addition, Wooster will have two compete in the 400 dash finals as Cam Ray (51.06) and Nate Chartrand (51.55) qualified within the top eight.
For the women, junior Evie Sanford placed fifth after a throw of 43 feet, 8.5 inches in the weight throw. Senior Amelia Mitchell scored in the high jump, placing sixth at 4 feet, 11.5 inches.
The women's distance medley relay team scored a point with its eighth-place finish (14:00.45) behind the team of Isabelle Dwyer, Amy Gabrovsek, Zanna Anderson and Igna Mendez.
Senior Daysia Hargrave qualified for the finals in the 60 hurdles on Saturday, with a third best qualifying time of 9.03 seconds. She will be in position to defend her title after winning the event last year.
Action will start back up at 10 a.m. tomorrow with field events. Running events will start at approximately 2:15 p.m.
