Scots Hold Annual Twilight 5K Challenge
Wooster runs under the lights at John P. Papp Stadium
WOOSTER, Ohio – The College of Wooster cross country team tuned up for next week's NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Regional with the program's annual fun 5K Twilight Challenge under the lights at John P. Papp Stadium.
Wooster's senior men occupied three of the top-five spots. Drew Robertson was the runner-up, crossing at 15:07.1. Will Callender backed that up with the third-place time of 15:31.2, while Eric Johnson claimed fifth-place with a time of 15:43.7. Of note, Callender logged a third top-three finish at the Twilight 5K Challenge.
Further down, junior Jack Schuller went 16:30.6 for a 12th-place showing. Fellow junior Zane DeMercurio and first-year Basil Keck claimed spots in the top-15. DeMercurio's 14th-place time was 16:34.2, while Keck crossed at 16:38.5.
Sophomore Nick Schade was Wooster's seventh finisher of the meet. Schade posted a time of 17:01.2 for 19th-place.
On the women's side, sophomore Reeve Helvoigt and senior Dylan Kretchmar placed in the top-10. Helvoigt's 19:10.7 was the seventh-fastest time among 31 finishers, while Kretchmar claimed eighth-place at 19:29.7.
Senior Jessie Breth's 19:49.8 was the 12th-place time, and classmate Igna Mendez was right behind with the 13th-place time of 19:50.1.
Seniors at the top of Wooster's finishers was a continuous theme, as Isabelle Dwyer was the program's fifth finisher at the meet, and the fourth from the class. Dwyer stopped the clock at 20:12.8 for a 15th-place finish. Seniors Elise Greenwald and Julianna Fiori rounded out Fridays top-seven for Wooster. Both placed in the top-20, with Greenwald posting a time of 20:18.3 and Fiori 20:44.1.
Cleveland State University junior Ana Crangle won the women's race with a time of 17:17.8. Oberlin College's Walter Moak was the men's winner at 14:55.7.
The NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Regional takes place on Saturday, November 16 in Shelbyville, Indiana, with start time at 11 a.m.
