Robertson the NCAC Runner-Up, Callender Makes Program History at Conference Championships
Callender Wooster's first four-time All-NCAC men's cross country runner
TERRE HAUTE, Indiana – Senior Drew Robertson was the North Coast Athletic Conference runner-up at the cross country championships for the second straight season, while classmate Will Callender made program history on Sunday afternoon. Wooster's men placed fourth of nine teams with 91 points at LaVern Gibson Championship Course, and the Fighting Scots' women checked in seventh of eight teams at 174 points.
Robertson was just over five seconds behind individual champion Brayden Curnutt from Wabash College (25:23.52), as the Fighting Scots' distance ace crossed at 25:28.90. Robertson earned first-team All-NCAC honors for the second time and joined Wooster greats Jason Kelley and Todd Fach as multi-time top-two placers at the NCAC Championships.
Callender became the men's first four-time All-NCAC performer in cross country. Callender was a second-team honoree this fall, thanks to the 11th-place time of 26:24.65. It marked Callender's third second-team All-NCAC certificate, and the senior was a first-team performer in 2023.
Senior Ben Nichols just missed on All-NCAC honors, crossing 23rd with a time of 27:08.77. Junior Jack Schuller was Wooster's No. 4 on the day, placing 26th at 27:18.49. Senior Eric Johnson capped the conference cross country career with a 29th-place time of 27:21.28.
First-year Basil Keck (63rd, 28:41.14) and junior Joe Ahmann (72nd, 29:11.77) comprised the rest of Wooster's top-seven.
Senior Dylan Kretchmar led Wooster's women, placing 22nd at 23:58.70. Kretchmar was followed by sophomore Reeve Helvoigt and senior Isabelle Dwyer, who posted similar times of 24:56.47 and 24:59.51, respectively. Helvoigt and Dwyer both placed in the top-40.
Senior Jessie Breth was Wooster's No. 4, placing 50th with a time of 25:44.90. The Scots' scorers concluded with senior Elise Greenwald, who was the 57th-place finisher at 26:17.47.
Seniors Igna Mendez (59th, 26:25.08) and Julianna Fiori (61st, 26:35.86) were within Wooster's top-seven.
Oberlin College was the men's team champion with 41 points. DePauw University scored 26 points and had all five scorers in the top-10 to easily win the women's title. The Tigers' Lily Monnett broke the tape with a winning time of 22:05.85.
Next, Wooster hosts its annual Twilight 5K Challenge, which is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 8 on Carl Munson Track at John P. Papp Stadium.
